Healthy adults should have no more than 2,300 mg of sodium each day. That’s about 1 teaspoonful of table salt. |

Wouldn't it be great if your doctor
had an opening today?
Open Access Health Care can make this possible. New Vision Physicians are transitioning to this system, which aims to provide you with a physician appointment for the same day you call.
Did you know? New Vision physicians and staff are available on weekends to serve your urgent medical needs. Call (519)578-3510 for more information.
Even when the clinic is closed, patients may call 1-866-553-7205 to speak to a registered nurse who will assess your concerns and, if necessary, refer you to the physician on call.
New Vision Dietitian, Cara Kasdorf, on the Importance of A Balanced Breakfast
Studies show children who eat breakfast score better on tests, make fewer errors and are more creative than their peers who don’t start the day with a healthy meal. Cara Kasdorf, a registered dietitian who has her own practice and works for two family health teams in Kitchener and Cambridge, says, "If you’re hungry and your energy levels are low, you’re not able to concentrate as well."
"Breakfasts should include at least three food groups," Kasdorf said. Try peanut butter on whole grain toast with a glass of milk. Parents can make a batch of boiled eggs and have them ready to go in the fridge for part of a grab-and-go breakfast.
Planning ahead, Kasdorf said, makes it so much easier to get kids to eat a balanced breakfast. Write a list before a grocery store trip to make sure there are the ingredients for healthy meals handy in the house.“You’re much more likely to eat it if it’s there,” Kasdorf said.
“Eating habits stick with a person through their life,” Kasdorf said, “which makes it crucial to get children started on the right track early.” She recommends the government sponsored website eatrightontario.ca for helpful tips for healthy breakfasts and meal planning.
