All patients must be seen during clinic hours, unless approved by PMAC pharmacists or nurses. In exceptional or urgent situations, patients may be seen outside of traditional PMAC clinic hours. If you need to cancel your appointment, 24-48 hours notice is required.
Please note, many patients share appointment slots. Multiple missed or cancelled appointments will not be rebooked.
New Vision developed a Pharmacist-Managed Anticoagulation Clinic (PMAC)in July 2008 for patients taking the blood-thinner, warfarin/Coumadin©. PMAC uses Point of Care INR testing (i.e. finger prick test using Coaguchek© from Roche), providing INR results to patients within seconds. Patients have their INR tested at least once per month at the clinic during 10 minute appointment slots and know exactly what dose of warfarin they are to take until their next appointment. Additionally, patients are screened for drug interactions and other adverse effects of warfarin at all appointments.
Currently, PMAC serves approximately 120 patients on warfarin.
