Types of Patients Seen

Our Respiratory Therapists provide counselling for patients with a history of Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD). Additionally, Spirometry (lung or breathing test) are done to assist physicians in confirming or ruling out lung diseases. Our Respiratory Therapists can also provide resources or brief telephone counselling for smoking cessation.

What to Expect

At your appointment with a Respiratory Therapist, you can expect:

  • Your height and weight will be taken
  • Your respiratory health and medication history will be collected and reviewed
  • Spirometry (lung or breathing Test) will be performed (if appropriate)
  • Your respiratory medications will be reviewed including how to use them properly
  • Identify triggers and discuss trigger avoidance
  • Discuss symptom monitoring and identifying when your Asthma or COPD controlled or uncontrolled
  • Discuss strategies to keep your condition well controlled
  • Development of a personalized Action Plan to manage your condition if it becomes uncontrolled
  • Development of a personalized quit smoking plan

PLEASE TRY NOT TO USE YOUR INHALERS ON THE DAY OF YOUR TEST. Bring your inhalers and chamber (if you have one) to your appointment.
