Circumcision Clinic
Our clinic offers circumcision to males from newborn to ten years of age, using the Plastibell technique. You do not need to be a patient of New Vision Family Health Team to access our circumcision clinic and no referral is required.
Our clinic is run by Dr. Yidersal Gebeyehu. He has over 16 years of experience, trained at Western University as well as in Ethiopia, and has completed over 15,000 circumcisions.
You will be provided with written after care instructions as well as his personal cell phone number for 24-hour support for up to two weeks following your child’s procedure.
Circumcision a safe, simple procedure done with a minimum amount of discomfort. A topical numbing cream (Emla) and a local anesthetic injection (after the skin is numb) and Tylenol are used to ensure optimal pain management. We use padded baby holders and parents are welcome to be present with their child during the procedure.
A topical anesthetic (Emla) is applied to the skin of the penis to numb the skin. Once the skin is numb, a local anesthetic is injected for additional pain control. The local anesthetic is injected using a very small needle and pain is minimized due to the effects of the topical anesthetic.
A device called a Plastibell is placed under the foreskin. The foreskin is then removed except for a small remnant, which will fall off with the Plastibell within seven days. The Plastibell works in the same way an umbilical cord clamp does.
You will have access to circumcision appointments within a few days of your request. Weekend and evening appointment requests may be considered.
To book by telephone, please call our office at 519-578-3510.
You can also book online. You will need to input your child’s health card number to book an appointment online. If you don't have a health card number, you can enter your phone number (no dashes or spaces) instead.
Circumcisions are an uninsured service that requires a fee of:
- $225.00 for age 0-12 months old
- $500.00 for age 1-10 years old
Fee is payable in-office or you can pre-pay via credit card online after you have booked your appointment.
Once you have registered for your circumcision appointment, you will receive an email with an information package which provides a brief overview of the procedure, do’s and don’ts for after care, pain management and expected healing process.
Once you arrive for your appointment you will be brought back into a patient room by one of our staff members. You will meet with Dr. Gebeyehu to answer any questions or concerns you may have prior to the procedure.
You and your child will then move into the procedure room where the circumcision will be performed. Once the circumcision is complete, we recommend you give your child one dose of Tylenol. Your child will be monitored for any bleeding for 20 minutes after the procedure.
If English is not your primary language, our circumcision hand out is available in a variety of languages upon request.
